The Most Dangerous Sport on Earth
Bull riding one of those risky sports that no one questions IF the rider is going to get injured, but, WHEN. It is a rodeo sport that involves a rider getting on a nearly 1 ton bull and attempting to stay mounted until the 8-second buzzer sounds, while the animal attempts to buck him off. Mounted to the bull with only one hand and a bull rope, the bull rider must not foul out by touching himself or the bull during the entire 8-second ride to receive a score.
Bar none, Bull Riding is the most dangerous sport on earth!
Bull Riding History
Informal Rodeos date back to when neighboring ranches would compete to see who had the best hired ranch hands, long before Rodeo had rules or regulations. Formal Rodeo has a history that has been recorded back to 1869 to the First Organized rodeo in Deer Trail, Colorado. Bull riding being amongst the competing events that the true western cowboys participated in.
Through the years the Organization that instilled the rules and regulations to rodeo to kept it fair for all competitors and stock contractors has changed it name. Starting out as the Rode Cowboy Association (RCA) and later being changed to the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA), which it is known as today.
Over the years, Bull Riding became one of the most popular events at the rodeos and would keep the stands filled with fans. A key time in history for bull riders came in 1994 with the organization of the Pro Bull riders Association or as we all know it, the PBR. This organization set its self apart from other Rodeo Organizations as it was bull riding only put together through the efforts of 20 professional bull riders who wanted more out of their sport
There are many pro and semi pro bull riding organizations across the country that bull riders compete in who have not yet qualified for the top bull riding organizations..
